coming up. 68 in santa rosa, 67 in san rafael. cooler back in the east bay after that the cold start with 63 in concord, 26 in livermore. quite a bit warmer down in the south bay. we got in on the 70s like dil gilroy at 72. feels more like late april and early may. santa cruz at 71. san jose at 6 and los gatos in the mid 60s. a few other spots that did reach into the 70s, we had scotts valley at 71, then you had cupertino at 70. san jose upper 60s. i want to put a pause on things for a moment. take a look at january winter extremes. anything unlike january should feel like here. throughout the entire month, the south bay has only had seven days of rain .69. we should have 2.081. with so much clear weather, the north bay has been stuck in the freezer. 16 days at or below 32 degrees and the average low is 37. at the coastline, this is where we put the wild twist on things. .at the coastline light offshore winds, that's where we had six days at 70 degrees and or above throughout santa cruz. outside of the sky camera network, there's the haze. the poor air quality we're under in the sant

in santa rosa. 48 in san rafael. 50 in san jose. 49 in concord and also 50 in livermore. here is the thing, current temperatures right now in the low 40s in the north and off to the east bay, a wind 10 to 20 miles an hour making a lot of the bay area feel like the 30s this hour, even the 37 in cupertino, a slight windchill making it feel like 32. the live hd camera network. there's the cloud top buildup. we have some towering cumulus clouds in the south bay today as a sign of instability. we take you off to the north and what you notice is we do have some clearing up above but plenty of low-level instability here across san francisco. and as we also take you into downtown looks good tonight, but bring that jacket and be on the look out or fom rogue showers that once again may develop through the evening hours. back to the weather boards. enough instability through 7:00, 8:00, 9:00 to pop showers up along the coastline. by tomorrow morning we are expecting mainly clear conditions and that is going to set us up for an extremely cold start for wednesday morning. interior valleys in the upper

out. it will continue to warm up. we had 70 in santa rosa. it was all about the south bay with some of the warmest weather today probably even got away with wearing the shorts. look at this, 74 in santa teresa. 75 in gilroy and temperatures are dropping off right now but nothing too unusual at least for this time of the year. what we are noting is this plume of moisture in washington and also oregon. this is producing some rainfall very close here to the bay area, mainly extreme northern california. this will mainly mean tonight an increase in cloud cover. let's show that you in our hd sky camera network. looks stormy but once again we're expecting dry weather there in the mid to lower levels for the peninsula, also the south bay, and then right up on into emeryville you can see the cloud cover that's continuing across downtown. so let's get you into the forecast as we head throughout thursday. we'll start off with temperatures in the upper 30s inland, 40s at the coast. some areas of fog and the low cloud cover. then by the afternoon hours, a lot of sunshine again and temperatures i

for tomorrow. we talked about those northwest winds, warming us close to 70 degrees today. santa rosa. 68 on the vineyard in napa. 63 in the almeda valley. cool into the valley with 58 degrees. now a look right now outside here at the current temperatures and what you can see primarily 50s across most of california, the clear skies in place. it's going to be cold no matter where you're at here. if you're doing a road trip, you also expect some jacket weather in the forecast. right now we're seeing 46 in petaluma and down to the south bay a closer zoom-in. you can see 51 in cupertino. let's take you outside of that live hd sky camera network and you have clear skies in san jose. the haze and the air quality is going to continue to get worse over the next couple of days and this in emeryville this is an awesome sunset. a little bit of an added layer there. we got that cleared off. we're going to see these skies continuing to stay clear once again as we head throughout the next two days. we have high pressure building offshore. that's going to bring us the offshore wind to give us this mild

into the north bay 76 in san rafael and 71 in santa rosa. now these winter extremes were all over the board. gilroy, one of our warmest with 79 degrees, san rafael with 7. we were a few degrees away in both of those locations from all-time daily heat today so, again, highly unusual weather that we had today now smack in the middle of february. temperatures are cooling off. down in the south bay a nice night to maybe eat outside. a live look at our sky camera network tonight and this is, as i said earlier, the money shot. as we head into this time of the year, you get a warm day. we have the pollution. that's been making it uncomfortable but visually this is a stunner there in emeryville looking back to san francisco and a sunset here across san mateo bridge. now let's get you into some of these larger changes we are going to undergo. high pressure that brought us the heat that is gradually going to push to the south and weaken. by sunday night, monday and tuesday, here comes this trough of low pressure. not only rainfall but the chance of thunderstorms for next week. temperatures will also

and windy. it did help temperatures to warm up to 68 in santa rosa. cooler in san jose with 61 for you. 67 in gilroy. 63 in livermore. a look right now at the current temperatures we're starting to drop off the immediate coastline, a slight onshore wind. 52 in san mateo and plenty of 50s in the east bay. in fact, already close to the 40s right now in pleasanton. outside to our live hd sky camera network. you get to spend too much time outside today, here is your window to the outside world. it looks incredible for tonight. not a whole lot of haze. a cold front moved through this weekend and that did help our air quality to improve. however, with only trace amounts of rain early saturday morning we didn't have enough to clean out the pollen so that will be continually a problem, very high pollen forecast. a look right now at what we have happening, the jet stream. the storm track which steers all of our activity, continues to push way up into alaska. this really is just unheard of this time of the year. we've seen less than two inches for most spots in all of 2013 when it comes to rainfall.

that cable carl hit the bolt? nbc bay area's joe rosa ta junior has the answers. >> san francisco's cable cars are the city's picturesque ambassadors to visitors from around the world. but yesterday they showed one group of riders their ugly side. today inspectors from the state puc examined the tracks at powell and washington where car 25 came to an abrupt halt before hitting a bolt in the tracks. sending seven people to the hospital. today, muni officials revealed an bolt came from their own system. >> to cause -- the cause of the incident was in fact a loose bolt that came from the screw plate. >> muni said the bolt came loose from one of the 41 switches along the system, which are visually inspected every day. >> what we do now in addition to visually checking them is that at least once a week, we will tighten up all of the bolts. >> muni says its underground cables are wrapped in sense areors that normally trigger alarm when there's an obstruction on the track but yesterday the alarm never sounded. >> the incident yesterday wasn't pick the up by the sensors because the bolt was jamme

in santa rosa. 58 in san jose, 26 in concord. all in all here, a lot of sunshine, very enjoyable outside. here was the only hitch in the forecast. winds pretty blustery near the coastline, also for the south and east bay, wind gusts that went as high as 25 to 35 miles per hour. that kicked around any kind of pollen in the atmosphere. everything blooming at this point either moderate to high. it looks like it's going to stay that way over the next 24 hours. you can see from palo alto we're pointed right up towards the sky. a little bit of mid level cloud cover and we'll take you off to the north. you can see in foster city, it is a clear view as that sunsets and then we bring you newspaper emeryville. this has been gorgeous tonight. it's another one to come to your tv and take a look at this one. maybe get a shot of that tv and frame that sucker. high pressure sitting is offshore is going to save us from any kind of storm activity. that is just a few hundred miles away. washington and oregon getting rainfall but for us as the high pressure moves in, it's going to provide a slight offshore

in santa rosa for a man who disappeared in a state park. it started when a couple called 911 to report a man in a pickup truck had followed them to their house and was strangely. by the time police had got there, the man had reportedly walked into annandale state park. around the same time, family members called to say he was missing and suffering from mental health issues. then a few hours later a mountain biker reported coming across a man in that park who was naked and chanting. >> mountain biker saw that. did not confront it or talk to him and then came down and reported that to us. last night henry as well as some deputies from the sheriff's department did a ground search, an aerial. we were unable to locate him and it was decided based upon the fact the reported sighting, that we would call out the search and rescue team. >> reporter: a woman at the scene who identified herself as the man's wife described him agency 6'6" with sandy brown hair and about 185 pounds. >>> police in fairfield continue to search for answers and a suspect in the case of a girl found dead in a park frida

as tonight goes, temperatures are going to be in the 30s for the north bay. 36 in santa rosa. 37 in athens. 38 in concord. and throughout tuesday we'll see daytime highs in the upper 50s for the south bay. also for the east bay, 58 in dublin. 54 in the castro valley and back here to the peninsula we're also expecting upper 50s. on your seven-day forecast we get rain returning as we head throughout thursday and friday with not a large storm. the best possibility will be on thursday and we'll see a few of those linger into friday. but, as we said, there is still hope in february to get some storms in here. keeping our fingers crossed at this point for something big. >> maybe late they are week. >> hopefully. thank you, jeff. >>> our beloved candlestick and the wrecking ball. with the new stadium nearing completion in santa clara san francisco's planning to demolish the stick. it will happen a few weeks after the end of next season.
